  • Tokyu Hands: Shibuya (Fun Shops / Shibuya)
  • 2008/11/17
  • A great department store with a little bit of everything, Tokyu Hands is a great place to start looking for anything you might need if you don't know where to get it. It is particularly good for DIYers, but has an extensive selection of items for home decor and furnishings, traditional Japanese collectibles and gifts for friends back home, and a fantastic "seasonal" section for Halloween costumes and Christmas decorations. The only thing to remember about Tokyu Hands in Shibuya is that, like all stores in Shibuya, it is extremely crowded, particularly when compared to other locations in the same chain. Also, the split-leveling of the store makes it less friendly for navigating (the floors are offset from each other by half flights of stairs...so there's 2A, 2B, and 2C, with 2A and 2C on the same level, 2B offset by half a floor). Awkward layout aside, is really is a great store.
  • Condomania: Shibuya (Fun Shops / Shibuya)
  • 2008/11/17
  • Like other locations of Condomania, the shop is small. But in a small space you can have quite a selection of condoms. And they do have a nice selection. They've got a wide variety of conventional brands, colors, flavors, lubricants, etc. It is much more of a novelty shop than a toy shop, though. Penis straws, gag-condoms, boobie stress toys, etc. are much more condomania's thing. All in all, a pretty fun place to go.
  • Womb (Dance Clubs / Nightclubs / Shibuya)
  • 2008/11/17
  • For everything from private events to headlining DJs from around the world to local talent, this is the place to go. Although it is sometimes so tightly packed that breathing can be a struggle, they do a great job of making it feel like it's underground. If you can last until first train and the club closing, you can become one of the few who get a discount by signing up for the Womb VIP club. Oh, and be prepared to be sshhhhhh'd if you have to wait outside the building to get in. People who live in the neighborhood have complained about the noise of the clubs so much that you'll feel like you're lining up for a school assembly. Drink prices are average, but cover is a bit pricey (around 5,000 yen).
  • Club Atom (Dance Clubs / Nightclubs / Shibuya)
  • 2008/11/17
  • Three wonderful floors of entertainment. From hip-hop on top to psytrance down below and nothing but house music all night long on the ground floor, this place is amazing. It is a club that caters to booty-shaking in all its glorious forms. And with enough room to dance, bounce, grind, and drink all night long, it absolutely has one-up on other clubs in Shibuya. Bartenders speak English, and you get one free drink at the door. Cover is 3,000 yen. Aaaand, for your convenience, it is located in the center of the love hotel district and is right next to a convenience store. Absolutely foreigner-friendly, as long as you don't act like a bunch of jerks who just left Gaspanic.
  • Club Asia (Dance Clubs / Nightclubs / Shibuya)
  • 2008/11/17
  • Pumpin' every night of the week...house music, hip-hop, and I've heard that some nights are even rock and roll...but don't quote me on that. During the weekends there are not many foreigners in the place, but during the week there's a good mix.
  • Club Pure (Dance Clubs / Nightclubs / Shibuya)
  • 2008/11/17
  • Pure...what is there to say besides ALL-YOU-CAN-DRINK. Maybe you didn't hear me...ALL-YOU-CAN-DRINK! What kind of club offers this? What club can afford to offer this? Who cares! I got my booty-shakin' on and if you know somebody who knows somebody, VIP is pretty chill. The thing about VIPs, though, is they pay for their drinks. Have fun with that.
If you're a foreigner looking for a one-night stand, happy hunting. Most girls who go here go to get picked up...don't be afraid to close a deal or seem lecherous.
  • Saizeriya (Family Restaurant / Shibuya)
  • 2008/11/17
  • You know those days when your boss just drives you crazy and you want to have a drink with your lunch? Well, 200 yen glasses of wine at Saizeriya make it possible to do just that without blowing your clubbing budget. It's a pretty standard fast food Italian chain, but like most places in the city, it is absolutely packed during lunch. This is mostly due to, not to the cheap wine, but the very cheap food. And the best part is, the food isn't actually that bad. 500 yen is enough for a filling lunch, and 800 to 1,000 yen will get you a steak with veggies.
  • Yuzawaya (Shopping-Others / Kichijoji)
  • 2008/12/26
  • A mecca of DIY goodness. This amazing store has fabric, notions, yarn, embroidery and quilting items, painting and drawing supplies, papercraft items, artificial flower arrangement items, etc. Basically, any craft you can think of you can find the supplies for here. Get the frequent buyers card and you can rack up 10% discounts depending on the day of the week.
  • Pink Sweet Berry (Cafes / Shibuya)
  • 2008/12/26
  • Tasty fro-yo is a nice break from the heavy ice creams at places like Cold Stone or even Baskin Robbins. They've got lots of topping options and the staff is friendly with limited English ability (you can order easily, but asking for directions might get a bit more difficult). Prices are pretty much what you'd expect at a place like this. There is usually space available for sitting. Nothing majorly special.
  • Sweets Paradise: Shibuya (Japanese Sweets & Cafes / Shibuya)
  • 2008/12/26
  • Holy diabetes, Batman! If you're looking for a great way to send your bloodsugar through the roof, go here. Sweets abound, but the smaller pieces allow you to enjoy without making an extra notch in your belt. Thought their specialty really is dessert, the food is pretty good, too. If feels a bit like a school cafeteria, but the food certainly doesn't taste like the stuff you ate in elementary school.
  • Inokashira Park (Parks & Nature / Kichijoji)
  • 2008/12/26
  • Amazing park just a few minutes walk from the Park Exit of Kichijoji station. There is a zoo, paddleboats, and restaurants in the park. It's perfect for hanami, afternoon walks, a picnic, etc. There are usually performers and artists selling their wares on blankets around the center lake. And the shops and restaurants bordering the park are fantastic. Definite must-see.
  • Inokashira Park Zoo (Parks & Nature / Kichijoji)
  • 2008/12/26
  • The San Diego Zoo it certainly is not. But it is still a fun thing to see inside Inokashira Park. The animals are smaller and there aren't that many varieties, nor are there large numbers of any variety. The aviary has quite a few interesting varieties of winged critters, but that's about it. It's not a depressing zoo, but it really isn't worth going out of your way for, either.
  • Air (Dance Clubs / Nightclubs / Daikanyama)
  • 2009/01/04
  • A great little hole-in-the-wall if you're looking to dance and meet some good "vibing" people. Definitely some good house music and solid progression. It'll keep you up all night.
  • Ageha (Dance Clubs / Nightclubs / Odaiba)
  • 2009/01/04
  • Ageha, or Butterfly, is definitely just that - a great place to fly all night long. From multiple dance floors to colorful light displays to big-name DJs like Junior Vasquez, DJ Dan, and DJ Tiesto it's a great place to stay all night long, dance til dawn, and watch the sun rise over the bay. Taking the bus from Shibuya is the absolute best method of getting there...unless you have a car of your own.
  • El Cafe Latino (Dance Clubs / Nightclubs / Roppongi)
  • 2009/01/28
  • Wonderful dance experience. Friendly staff and environment. I really really enjoyed being able to actually dance on the dance floor. Plenty of people but not too crowded and definitely a place to work up a sweat. Lively and entertaining with a good international crowd. The cover is a bit steep, but if you consider that it is for an entire evening of entertainment, it really isn't too bad.
  • Salsa Sudada (Dance Clubs / Nightclubs / Roppongi)
  • 2009/01/28
  • If you're looking for somewhere to take your Brazilian friends, this is the place. Big hangout for the local Latin crowd. Not as international as other salsa clubs, but still a very good experience. They offer lessons and have a decent selection at the bar. It is a great place to dance till dawn and maybe...meet a friend or two. The dance floor is a tad small, but you can still have a great time.
  • Le Baron de Paris (Dance Clubs / Nightclubs / Omotesando, Aoyama)
  • 2009/01/28
  • Definitely the "it" place. Draws a good crowd of wonderful people who just want to have a good time. No nonsense, just good vibes and great tunes. A good place to spot the underground crew and maybe even get invited to a private party. Make sure you are a VIP. Better to know somebody who knows somebody if you're going to go here.
  • la fabrique (Dance Clubs / Nightclubs / Shibuya)
  • 2009/01/28
  • Great location right in the center of Shibuya and a great place to dance the night away after shopping all day long. It's also a good place to stop in for a quick snack in the middle of your day. Ritzy atmosphere and classy appearance - definitely dress to impress. A little overpriced for dinner but when it's all said and done, I'd go back.
  • Velours (Dance Clubs / Nightclubs / Omotesando, Aoyama)
  • 2009/01/28
  • Absolutely fabulous. A little loud later on in the evening but OH-MY-GOD. The atmosphere, the design, the fashion, the experience! If you've been spending the whole day in Omotesando or just up and down the runway, this is your home. Don't forget to be smart - jeans and a t-shirt WON'T cut it here. Be ready for luxury and to party like a rock star.
  • Tsukiji Fish Market (Landmarks & Historical Places / Tsukiji)
  • 2009/01/28
  • Due to the inability of drunken foreigners to STOP LICKING THE TUNA the entire fish market has been redesigned. It is now much harder to see the market as it used to operate. Most people forget when they travel here that it is an actual work place for fishermen and brokers. It is interesting to see, but party people who stumble in here after a night of binge drinking have started ruining it for everyone. If you go, play nice.
